After the Wild Card round the calendar widens. Division Series from October 3, best of five. Championship Series from October 11 in the National League and October 12 in the American, best of seven. Then the World Series from October 23. A team that starts at the very bottom of the bracket has to win eleven games across four rounds; a team with a bye needs the same eleven but plays one fewer series, which in practice means a rested rotation and a set bullpen.
Watching it has changed. The national rights were redrawn for 2026 and the playoffs are now spread across three broadcasters: NBC and Peacock have the Wild Card Series, TBS, truTV and HBO Max carry the ALDS and ALCS, and FOX and FS1 take the NLDS, the NLCS and every game of the World Series.
