Santiago Giménez, Mexico’s Striker on the World Stage
Santiago “Bebote” Giménez was born on 18 April 2001 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to a Mexican footballing family. His father, Christian “El Chaco” Giménez, is a celebrated Mexican football icon, which gave Santiago both his footballing DNA and his deep roots in Mexican football culture. Despite being born in Argentina, he holds Mexican nationality and has built his international career representing El Tri.
Giménez came through the youth academy at Cruz Azul in Mexico before making a decisive move to Europe. He joined Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie in 2022 and immediately became one of the most clinical finishers in European football, racking up goals at a remarkable rate and earning comparisons to elite strikers. His performances in the Eredivisie and in UEFA Europa League competition made him one of the most sought-after forwards in world football.
In January 2025, Santiago Giménez completed a high-profile transfer to AC Milan in Serie A, one of the biggest clubs in Italian and world football. The move confirmed his status as a top-tier striker and put him on an even bigger stage. His arrival at the San Siro was met with enormous excitement from both Milan fans and Mexican football supporters worldwide.
For Mexico’s national team, Giménez is the undisputed first-choice striker, a focal point of El Tri’s attack in CONCACAF qualifiers, Copa América, and beyond. His goal-scoring record at international level has made him the most important Mexican forward since the heyday of Javier Hernández “Chicharito.” He is still in his early twenties, which means his peak years are almost certainly still ahead of him.
