Rosalía
Rosalía is the Catalan pop-flamenco iconoclast who went from Barcelona's conservatory to Grammy wins and a global fanbase, and she did it entirely on her own sonic terms.
Rosalía Vila Tobella, known mononymously as Rosalía, is a Spanish singer-songwriter from Sant Esteve Sesrovires, a small town near Barcelona, Catalonia. She studied flamenco at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC) and built her artistry on deconstructing traditional Spanish music through experimental production, most famously alongside producer El Guincho on her breakthrough album El Mal Querer (2018).
She became a genuine global crossover act with MOTOMAMI (2022), a record that fused flamenco, reggaeton, electronic music, and pop in ways nobody had heard before. It won the Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album and the Latin Grammy Album of the Year, cementing her as one of the most critically acclaimed artists of her generation, not just in Spain, but worldwide.
People search for Rosalía constantly because she sits at the intersection of multiple massive fandoms: Latin music, alternative pop, high fashion (she’s a regular at Chanel and Balenciaga campaigns), and internet culture. Her collaborations stretch from J Balvin and Bad Bunny to Billie Eilish and Pharrell Williams.
She is also frequently searched because of her high-profile relationship with Puerto Rican reggaeton star Rauw Alejandro, their engagement, and their very public 2023 breakup, a tabloid saga that played out largely on social media and in music.
A note on a common confusion: Rosalía is not a character in any TV show. There is a Spanish series called El cocinero de Castamar (The Cook of Castamar), but Rosalía the musician has no role in it, these are entirely separate public figures, and the show’s characters are fictional. Similarly, Rosalía does not appear in Euphoria.
