Max Verstappen: The Dutchman Who Rewrote the Record Books
Max Verstappen is a Dutch Formula 1 driver born on September 30, 1997, in Hasselt, Belgium. The son of former F1 driver Jos Verstappen and karting champion Sophie Kumpen, he was bred for motorsport from birth. He made his F1 debut at just 17 years old with Toro Rosso in 2015, and by 2016, promoted to Red Bull Racing, he became the youngest race winner in F1 history at the Spanish Grand Prix.
What followed was one of the most dominant stretches in the sport’s history. Verstappen claimed four consecutive World Championship titles from 2021 to 2024, setting records for wins in a single season and cementing his legacy as one of the all-time greats before turning 27. His 2023 season in particular, 19 wins from 22 races, is widely regarded as one of the most statistically dominant in F1 history.
The 2025 season brought a reality check: Verstappen finished as vice-champion, with McLaren’s Lando Norris claiming the title. Then came 2026 and a sweeping regulatory overhaul that reshuffled the entire grid. Red Bull’s new car has struggled badly to adapt, and Verstappen has managed just a single podium in the early part of the season, a stark contrast to his recent dominance.
That context explains why search interest in Verstappen is surging in mid-2026. A “exit clause” in his Red Bull contract has been widely reported and speculated upon, fuelling questions about whether he might leave the team, or even the sport, before his deal expires. Red Bull has publicly stated he is “fully committed,” but the rumours have not gone away.
Off the track, Verstappen is famously private but publicly known to be in a long-term relationship with Kelly Piquet, daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet. He is based in Monaco, a common fiscal and logistical home for F1 drivers.
