Chris Martin
Chris Martin is the frontman of Coldplay, one of the best-selling bands of the 21st century, and his romantic life has kept tabloids busy for two decades.
Chris Martin: Coldplay’s Eternal Optimist
Chris Martin was born on 2 March 1977 in Exeter, Devon, England. He co-founded Coldplay at University College London in 1996 alongside Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion. The band’s debut album Parachute (2000) launched them into the stratosphere, and records like A Rush of Blood to the Head, X&Y, Viva la Vida, and Music of the Spheres cemented their status as one of the biggest acts on the planet, with tens of millions of albums sold worldwide.
Beyond the music, Martin’s personal life has attracted enormous search traffic. His high-profile marriage to actress Gwyneth Paltrow (2003–2016) introduced the now-iconic phrase “conscious uncoupling” into the cultural lexicon when the pair announced their separation in 2014. Their divorce was finalised in 2016. Together they have two children: Apple (born 2004) and Moses (born 2006).
Since his split from Paltrow, Martin has been linked to actress Dakota Johnson, with whom he has maintained a long-term, largely low-key relationship since around 2017. The couple are rarely forthcoming about their private arrangements, which only fuels the relentless public curiosity.
Martin is also known for his live-show spectacle, Coldplay’s Music of the Spheres world tour became one of the highest-grossing concert tours ever recorded. He is regarded as one of rock’s most gifted melodists, a reputation that keeps him firmly in the public eye regardless of whatever is happening in his personal life.
