Aurélien Tchouaméni: France’s Midfield Anchor at the Bernabéu
Aurélien Tchouaméni was born on 27 January 2000 in Rouen, France, and grew up in Orléans before rising through the youth academies of Bordeaux and Monaco. He turned professional at Bordeaux, made his breakthrough at AS Monaco, and in the summer of 2022 Real Madrid signed him for a reported fee of around €80 million plus add-ons, one of the biggest midfield transfers in history at the time.
At Real Madrid he inherited the deep-lying midfield role vacated by the great Casemiro, wearing the No. 18 shirt. Despite enormous pressure, he adapted quickly, winning the UEFA Champions League in his debut season at the club (2022–23). His combination of reading the game, physicality, and composure on the ball made him a starter under Carlo Ancelotti ahead of some of the most decorated midfielders in the world.
Internationally, Tchouaméni is a key figure for the French national team. He was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where he notably scored a long-range stunner against England in the quarter-finals. He has quickly become one of Les Bleus’ most trusted starters alongside the likes of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappé.
Searches for Tchouaméni spike reliably around major tournaments, Champions League knockout rounds, and any injury or suspension news, because when he misses out, Real Madrid and France both visibly miss his stabilising presence in midfield.
